Intertek pilot plant experts help clients improve petroleum refinery production, quality, and efficiencies.  Intertek provides around the clock, attended unit operations and analytical controls to permit timely, cost effective, and accurate process evaluations in its pilot plants.  

This position is responsible for preparing the units for operation, monitoring operating parameters, performing routine maintenance and operations, troubleshooting and observing, and recording data on unit performance. The units are operated in three (3) shifts.  Operators are scheduled on a rotating shift basis and shift differential is paid for evening and midnight shifts.   Candidates should have the ability to work with tools and handle drum quantities of materials, good mechanical aptitude, and good understanding of basic math and science.

Responsibilities:



  • Prepare process units for operation, based on process conditions provided by Manager, Resources & Facilities, or Engineer.  
  • Carefully read and follow run instructions and daily logbook instructions.  
  • Check feedstock prior to testing to ensure that the correct feedstock has been selected and that no contaminants are present.  
  • Monitor gauges, recording instruments, flowmeters or products to ensure that specified conditions are maintained. 
  • Carefully record operational data such as temperatures, pressures, processing times or test results in the logbook, and verbally communicate status of the operation to co-workers. 
  • Inspect equipment or units to detect leaks or malfunctions. 
  • Diagnose and correct minor operational problems.  
  • Perform routine unit maintenance and repair.   
  • May help train less experienced operators as necessary.  
  • Prepare samples for analyses as directed. 
  • Label all unit feedstocks and products completely and clearly.  
  • Perform limited analytical testing associated with pilot plant operations, e.g., gravities, sulfur analyses, and GC distillations. 
  • Cooperate with co-workers and on-site representatives of client companies. 
  • Seek assistance from more experienced operators and/or Supervisor during operational problems or uncertainty.  
  • Observe all safety and materials handling procedures and policies.  
  • Maintain a clean and presentable work area.  
  • Handle other duties as requested by Management.
     
Required Qualifications:  



  • High school graduate or equivalent with a minimum of two years of college in a science-related field, or an appropriate Associates Degree or the equivalent experience.    
  • Minimum of two years pilot plant operating experience. 
  • Knowledge of mathematic principles and applications. 
  • Knowledge of machines and tools. 
  • At a minimum, should be able to operate two types of units with some supervision.  
  • Ability to watch gauges, dials or other indicators to make sure equipment is working properly and within the parameters of project. 
  • Ability to follow both verbal and written instructions. 
  • Ability to communicate both verbal and written information and ideas. 
  • Ability to work with tools and handle drum quantities of materials.  
  • Ability to complete tasks carefully and thoroughly. 
  • Requires sitting, standing, bending, reaching and climbing. 
  • Requires lifting up to 50 pounds.  
  • Must be able to work shifts or other operating schedules. 
  • Must be able to work with hazardous and/or flammable materials. 
  • Must be able to wear a respirator and take annual medical exam and respirator fit testing.

Reservoir Engineer-Appraisal Team

This position will be part of a multi-disciplinary and multi-purpose team charged with delineating, growing and monetizing SM Energy’s operated resource play assets within the Houston office. Under limited review, this individual handles all facets of reservoir appraisal and engineering. This individual will coordinate and conduct a wide range of activities including data mining, data compilation, competitor analysis, subsurface evaluation, economics, and development planning. Candidates must have the ability to communicate and function on a cross functional team of geoscientists as well as make technical presentations to upper management. Responsibilities include:
  • Field, well, and reservoir performance evaluation and characterization (technical),
  • Reserve assessment and booking in accordance with SEC guidelines,
  • Competitor analysis using public data,
  • Data mining, compilation, summary, and presentation,
  • Short fuse, quick turn-around technical evaluations & economics assessments,
  • New drill evaluations and justification,
  • PowerPoint presentations for technical and economic evaluations,
  • Development, evaluation, & bid recommendations using Aries,
  • Evaluating, recommending, implementing production optimization activities,
  • Providing recommendations to improve well performance via fracture stimulations.
  • Conduct business with the highest ethical standards; demonstrate decision-making skills that ensure the safety of all persons associated with SM facilities,

Experience/Education:
  • B.S. in Petroleum Engineering is required. Individuals without a Petroleum Engineering degree from an accredited University will not be considered.
  • Minimum of five years reservoir/production engineering experience with onshore oil & gas fields. Experience must be with a Major or Independent Operator.
Requirements:
  • Solid understanding of reservoir characterization and engineering economic evaluations.
  • High proficiency & experience using ARIES is required.
  • Proficient level of skill in Microsoft Office.
  • Experience with industry/company software including: AFEN, SROD, OFM, WellView, & Data Cube training is a plus.
  • Familiar with core analysis and petro-physical evaluation.
  • Working knowledge and practical application of volumetric calculations, decline curve reserve determinations, rate and pressure transient analysis, appropriate analogue techniques and material balance assessments.
  • Experience with conventional oil and gas reservoirs and unconventional resource plays. Secondary recovery, horizontal development and EOR experience is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to produce results that meet economic goals and make economic recommendations that have a positive financial impact.
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to advance multiple projects simultaneously; takes a multi-disciplinary approach to projects

Qualifications

    • Create AFE’s for all GWA post drill activities
  • Access Database Entry – Input data and help with QC of data
